Erst Train Spotting im National Railway Museum in York, dann ein Sonnenuntergangs-Selfie auf den weißen Klippen von Dover und zum Abschluss auf ein Pint in den nächsten Pub. Bei so viel Abwechslung wäre sogar die Queen »amused«! Dein MARCO POLO Reiseführer für England enthält alles, was du brauchst, um bei so viel Auswahl den Überblick zu behalten. Mit zahlreichen Tipps für Ausflugsziele und Aktivitäten, allen wichtigen Infos zu Land und Leuten und übersichtlichem Kartenmaterial bist du auf jedes Abenteuer in deinem Traumurlaub bestens vorbereitet!
Der Marco-Polo Reiseführer hat ein unverwechselbares Design. Er ist mit seinen 148 Seiten klein und kompakt gehalten. Das Vorder- und Rückcover lässt sich ausklappen und als Lesezeichen nutzen. Hinten befindet sich eine eingelebte Übersichtskarte im Maßstab von 1:800.000 (1cm = 8km) mit einem Ortsregister, den Marco Polo „Top-Highlights“ und einer kleinen Stadtkarte von London.
Besonders hervorzuheben sind die Insider-Tipps, die in diesem Reiseführer zu finden sind. Diese beinhalten zehn Städte oder besondere Orte, die man auf seinem England Besuch nicht verpassen sollte. Sie ermöglichen es den Lesern, abseits der ausgetretenen Pfade zu wandeln und versteckte Juwelen zu entdecken. Neben ein bis zwei prägnanten Sätzen findet man noch einen Tipp und einen Verweis auf die Seite mit weiterführenden Informationen im Buch. Um schnell ins Buch einzusteigen, finden sich die Kapitel „Das Beste zuerst“, „So tickt England“ und „Essen, Shoppen, Sport“. Hier bekommt auf ca. 38 Seiten eine kompakte Zusammenfassung zu England. Mich hat hier das Kapitel „Das Beste zuerst“ angesprochen. Hier gibt es Empfehlungen, was man bei Regen machen kann. Wer es nicht wusste, erfährt auf der „Auf einen Blick“ Seite untern anderem, dass es in London im Schnitt 113 Regentage im Jahr gibt. Aber es gibt auch Hinweise für Reisende mit einem kleinen Geldbeutel, für Familien mit Kindern und ein paar England typische Aktivitäten und Orte.
Danach folgt dann die Inhaltsübersicht, welche wie folgt aufgegliedert ist:

- Der Westen
- Der Osten
- Der Süden
- Erlebnistouren
- Gut zu Wissen
Die einzelnen Kapitel sind farblich hervorgehoben und erleichtert so eine gute Orientierung im Buch.
Hat man sich einen ersten Überblick verschafft, geht es jetzt in die unterschiedlichen Regionen. Diese sind vom Aufbau immer identisch. Auf einer dazugehörigen Übersichtskarte finden sich die Highlights der Region mit dem Verweis auf die entsprechende Seitenzahl. Je nach Größe der beschriebenen Location findet man folgende Infos: geschichtlicher Hintergrund mit Einwohnerzahl, Sightseeing Tipps, Essen und Trinken, Shoppen, Ausgehen und Feiern, Sport und Spaß, Strände und Hinweise zur näheren Umgebung. Hier finden sich auch Adressen, Öffnungszeiten, Preise und Links mit weiterführenden Informationen. Aufgelockert sind die Seiten mit dem ein oder anderen Foto. Die zu Beginn angesprochenen Highlights sind farblich hervorgehoben.
Im Kapitel „Erlebnistouren“ finden sich vier Vorschläge für unterschiedlich lange Touren in der entsprechen Region. Dies kann dann zum Beispiel eine Wanderung, Fahrradtour oder Autofahrt sein. Dazu gehört eine kleine Karte, die einzelnen Abschnitte der Tour und natürlich auch Hinweise zu den empfohlenen Highlights entlang der Strecke. Hier kommt nun auch die Touren App zur Geltung. Je nach Endgerät kann man sich die entsprechende App auf sein Smartphone laden und sich die Tour herunterladen (Offline-Modus inbegriffen). Links zur App habe ich weiter unten aufgeführt.
Zum Abschluss findet sich dann noch die Rubrik „Gut zu wissen“. Hier gibt es vielerlei Informationen für die Anreise, über das Klima bzw. Wetter, Fortbewegungsmittel, Feiertage, Maße und Gewichte, was man im Notfall tun kann und Möglichkeiten zur Unterkunft. Abgerundet wird das Ganze mit einem kleinen Wörterbuch und Zeigebilder, um sich Verständlich zu machen. Wer sich vorab auf seinen Urlaub einstimmen will, bekommt hier noch den ein oder anderen Buch- und Filmtipp, eine Playlist, welche man sich dann über einen Code bei einem bekannten Musik-Anbieter herunterladen kann und ein paar Links für nützliche Informationen zu Museen, der englischen Küche oder einer App mit landesweiten Fahrplänen. Diese Informationen sind äußerst hilfreich für Reisende, die sich auf ihre Reise vorbereiten und einen reibungslosen Ablauf sicherstellen möchten.
