Corona hat unser aller Leben in vielen Dingen verändert. So hat der Virus auch Einfluss auf unser Reiseverhalten. Viele Länder unterlagen und unterliegen immer noch Reisebeschränkungen. So kam es zu Stornierungen durch Reiseveranstalter und auch zu Reiserücktritten von Urlaubern, aus Angst sich im Ausland zu infizieren.

So ging es auch uns. Unser Urlaub auf die Kapverden wurde storniert und so mussten wir uns nach einem anderen Reiseziel umsehen. Ein Urlaub im Ausland kam für uns nicht mehr in Frage. Also haben wir uns in Deutschland umgesehen und sind dann an der Deutschen Nordseeküste gelandet.
Viele andere Reisenden haben ähnlich entschieden und sind in Deutschland geblieben. Beliebte Orte waren höher frequentiert, wie zum Beispiel die Ostsee oder das Allgäu. Deutschland hat aber noch mehr zu bieten und dazu gibt es entsprechende Reiseempfehlungen, wie auch in dem vor mir liegendem Bildband.

Der Bildband kommt „fast“ im Din-A4 Format und ist mit seinen 192 Seiten gut „Daumendick“. Es handelt sich um ein Softcover-Format mit „ausklappbaren“ Seitenteilen. Diese kann man als Lesezeichen nutzen, da ansonsten kein Leseband vorhanden ist. Ansprechend sind besonders die farbliche Gestaltung und der Aufbau des Bildbandes. Neben Informationstexten finden sich viele tolle Fotos. Diese sind entweder einseitig oder gekachelt angeordnet.
Wie im Klappentext angesprochen, finden sich im Buch 40 Ausflüge bzw. Touren. Diese sind nach vier Themengruppen aufgeteilt. Hier kann man sich überlegen ob man „zu Fuß“ Wanderwege erkunden kann, „mit der Bahn“ Landschaften genießen, „auf dem Rad“ am Wasser entlang oder sich einfach ein „Naturschauspiel“, wie Aussichtspunkte oder Panoramastrecken auf sich wirken lassen möchte. Die einzelnen Angebote sind auf einer Deutschlandkarte eingezeichnet und im Inhaltsverzeichnis gelistet.
Der Aufbau der einzelnen „Ausflüge“ ist immer gleich. Es geht immer über vier Seiten, wobei zwei Seiten mit einem informativen Begleittext versehen sind. Darin finden sich die Beschreibung der einzelnen Etappen, Sehenswürdigkeiten, Anekdoten, Architektur, Literatur, Orte der Kunst und Musik, der Städten bis hin zu kulinarischen Genüssen und auch geschichtliche Hintergründe. Auf den anderen beiden Seite finden sich diverse Fotos, die einen ersten Eindruck der Orte vermitteln. Ein paar wichtige Infos sind am Rand bzw. am Ende des Textes zu finden. Dazu gehört eine kleine stilisierte Karte mit den umschriebenen Orten, Informationen in Kürze (Lage, Länge der Strecke, Besonderheiten und Infos wie Andressen, Telefonnummern oder Internetadressen) und eine Streckenbeschreibung mit Kilometerangabe zwischen den einzelnen Etappen.
Die vorgestellten „Ausflüge“ sind in ganz Deutschland zu finden. Ich finde hier ehrlich gesagt den Begriff „Ausflug“ nicht ganz so passend. Hier handelt es sich schon um längere Touren. Je nachdem wo man wohnt, muss man schon eine ordentliche Strecke zurücklegen, um an die benannten Orte zu kommen. Wenn ich dann auch lese, dass z.B. eine Radtour über 10 Etappen empfohlen wird, kann man auch schon von einem Urlaub reden.
Der Inhalt dieses Buches ist laut Impressum „ein Auszug“ aus dem 2017 erschienen Bildband „Entdecke Deutschland: 100 Touren zu Kultur, Geschichte und Natur„. Dieser ist als fester Einband erschienen, ist jedoch nur noch als Gebrauchtware zu erwerben. Aus diesem Band wurden die 40 Reiseziele 1:1 übernommen. Auch die Fotos sind identisch. Einzig die Farbgestaltung hat sich ein wenig verändert. Hier stellt sich die Frage, warum muss nun noch einmal eine „abgespeckte“ Version des Bildbandes auf den Markt geworfen werden? Vielleicht hängt dies mit der auf dem Cover empfohlenen Website zur Aktion „Entdecke Deutschland“ zusammen?
Wer mehr über die Aktion „Entdecke Deutschland“ erfahren möchte findet den empfohlenen Link auf unter dem Aufkleber auf dem Frontcover. Hier haben die unterschiedlichen Tourismusverbände der Bundesländer zusammen mit den Marketingorganisationen ein tolles Paket zusammengeschnürt. Zuletzt wurde die Seite laut Whois im April 2020 bearbeite. Hier finden sich dann sehr viele Tipps und Empfehlungen zu den einzelnen Locations in den 16 Bundesländern, die definitiv einen Blick wert sind.
Zusammenfassend sehe ich den Bildband als „Begleitbuch“ dieser oben genannten Aktion. Hier hat der Verlag einfach mal in die „Konserve“ gegriffen und eine „abgespeckte“ Version auf den Markt gebracht. In Zeiten von Corona wird hier der Augenmerk auf die Heimat gelegt, die aber auch viel zu bieten hat.

Corona has changed all our lives in many ways. For example, the virus also has an influence on our travel behaviour. Many countries have had and still have travel restrictions. This led to cancellations by tour operators and also to travel cancellations by holidaymakers for fear of becoming infected abroad.
This was also the case for us. Our holiday on the Cape Verde Islands was cancelled and so we had to look for another destination. A holiday abroad was no longer an option for us. So we looked around in Germany and ended up on the German North Sea coast.
Many other travellers made similar decisions and stayed in Germany. Popular places were more frequented, such as the Baltic Sea or the Allgäu. But Germany has even more to offer and there are travel recommendations for this, as well as in the illustrated book in front of me.

The illustrated book comes „almost“ in A4 format and with its 192 pages is well „thumb-thick“. It is a softcover format with „fold-out“ page sections. These can be used as bookmarks, otherwise there is no booklet. The colour design and the structure of the illustrated book are particularly appealing. In addition to information texts there are many great photos. These are arranged either one-sided or tiled.
As mentioned in the blurb, the book contains 40 excursions or tours. These are divided into four thematic groups. Here you can consider whether you want to explore hiking trails „on foot“, enjoy landscapes „by train“, „on the bike“ along the water or simply enjoy a „natural spectacle“ such as viewpoints or panoramic routes. The individual offers are marked on a map of Germany and listed in the table of contents.
The structure of the individual „excursions“ is always the same. They are always four pages long, two of which are accompanied by an informative text. The text contains descriptions of the individual stages, sights, anecdotes, architecture, literature, places of art and music, cities, culinary delights and historical background information. On the other two pages you will find various photos which give you a first impression of the places. Some important information can be found in the margin or at the end of the text. These include a small stylised map with the places described, information in brief (location, length of the route, special features and information such as addresses, telephone numbers or internet addresses) and a description of the route with kilometres between the individual stages.
The „excursions“ presented can be found throughout Germany. To be honest, I don’t find the term „excursion“ quite so appropriate here. These are already longer tours. Depending on where you live, you have to cover a good distance to get to the places mentioned. When I read that, for example, a bicycle tour of 10 stages is recommended, I can already talk about a holiday.
According to the imprint, the content of this book is „an excerpt“ from the illustrated book „Entdecke Deutschland: 100 Touren zu Kultur, Geschichte und Natur“, which was published in 2017. It was published as a hard cover, but is only available as second-hand book. From this volume the 40 destinations were taken 1:1. The photos are also identical. Only the colour scheme has changed a little. Here the question arises, why is it necessary to throw a „slimmed down“ version of the illustrated book onto the market? Perhaps this is due to the website recommended on the cover for the „Discover Germany“ campaign?
If you would like to find out more about the „Discover Germany“ campaign, you will find the recommended link under the sticker on the front cover. Here, the various tourism associations of the federal states have put together a great package together with the marketing organisations. According to Whois, the site was last updated in April 2020. Here you will find a lot of tips and recommendations for the individual locations in the 16 federal states, which are definitely worth a look.
In summary, I see the illustrated book as a „companion book“ to the above-mentioned action. Here the publishing house has simply reached into the „tin can“ and brought a „slimmed down“ version onto the market. In times of Corona the focus is on the homeland, which has a lot to offer.

❗️ Finally, a note on our own behalf. Again and again I read in other reviews of information that is missing or a missing detailed description of the places, attractions, tours, maps and so on. When buying travel guides, the buyer should always be aware that the authors of the books pass on YOUR impression and tips. Nor do I rely on just one travel guide. There are various sources of information and one should use these to create a personal „day by day“. So we take various travel guides for our holiday planning and work through them to create a relaxing holiday. We also always look for offers for families with children, who unfortunately do not bring along all travel guides… You will always find one or the other travel guide on our blog. ❗️
