Es ist bald Ende November. Die Tage werden immer kürzer, die Bäume haben fast alle Blätter verloren, es wird kalt und das Wetter unangenehm. Wir zünden Zuhause wieder Kerzen an und trinken einen heißen Tee. Es ist auch die Zeit, wo man sich mit einem Buch und einer warmen Decke zurückzieht und den Alltag abschüttelt. Ich schaue dann auch gerne mal in einen Bildband und lasse meine Seele baumeln. In meiner Rezension möchte ich einen Bildband vorstellen, der die „Magie der Berge“ vorstellt.

Der vor mir liegende Bildband ist hochwertig in Halbleinen gebunden. Auf dem Buchdeckel blickt man auf ein Foto mit Blick auf die Geislergruppe in Südtirol. Der Buchtitel hebt sich in weißer Schrift vom Himmel ab. Den Titel findet man noch einmal auf der Rückseite des Buches auf dunkelblauen Hintergrund. Hier findet man neben einem kleinen Foto einen kurzen Hinweistext zum Inhalt des Buches. Mit seinen Abmessungen von 23.7 x 30.2 cm ist es 2,8 cm dick und umfasst 360 Seiten. Ein Buchband ist leider nicht zu finden.
Schon auf den ersten Seiten bin ich hin und weg. Auf den Doppelseiten wurde mir klar, wie klein man im Vergleich zu den majestätischen Gipfeln und den umliegenden Landschaften eigentlich ist. Zu jedem der Bilder gibt es einen kurzen Hinweistext. Generell sind die Texte kurzgehalten, da es hier ja um die gut 1000 Aufnahmen geht. Jedes dieser Fotos spricht für sich und braucht keine seitenlangen Erklärungen.
Die Berge, Gebirgsgruppen und die meist dazugehörigen Nationalparks sind über alle Kontinente verteilt. Einen Überblick findet man auf zwei Doppelseiten mit den dazugehörigen Seitenzahlen. Jeder Kontinent hat seine eigene Faszination.
Der weitere Aufbau ist immer der gleiche. Neben dem Namen findet man Informationen, ob es sich um einen Nationalpark, ein UNESCO-Biosphärenreservat, ein UNESCO-Weltnaturerbe oder ein UNESCO-Welterbe handelt. Hier findet sich im Vergleich zu den anfänglichen textlich kurzgehaltenen „Appetitanregern“, ein etwas längerer Textblock mit den wichtigsten Informationen zu den Locations. Unter der Überschrift „Auf einen Blick“ gibt es noch Hinweise zur Lage, Größe, Höhe, Anerkennung, Gründung und oftmals noch eine Internetadresse. Die Fotos zeigen meist die „Magie der Berge“. Es gibt aber auch Fotos der Tier- und Pflanzenwelt. Zwischenzeitlich lassen sich die Seiten „ausklappen“ und man blickt auf ein atemberaubendes Panoramabild. Aufgenommen sind die Bilder zu verschiedenen Tages- und Jahreszeiten. Immer wieder überkommt mich das Gefühl der Ehrfurcht.
Während unserer Hochzeitsreise waren wir in Kanada unterwegs und sind unter anderem von Jasper nach Banff gefahren. Es sind gut 300 Kilometer durch die kanadischen Rocky Mountains. Wenn man dann die Fotos im Buch findet, fühlte ich mich wieder zurückversetzt. Ich habe ein paar alte Fotos herausgesucht. Ein kleiner Tipp für Besucher des Columbia Icefields. Man muss nicht unbedingt mit den großen, kostenpflichtigen Fahrzeugen auf den Gletscher fahren. Unterhalb des Gletschers gab es einen Parkplatz, von dem man gut zu Fuß zum Gletscher kommt und diesen betreten kann.
Schade finde ich es, dass hier die Fotografen nicht vorgestellt werden. Die Fotos stammen von bekannten großen Image Anbietern: Alamy, Mauritius-Images, Getty-Images und Corbi. Der Bildbestand des letztgenannten Anbieters wurde von Getty übernommen. Im Bildnachweis sind einzig die Namen der Fotografen genannt. So findet man das Titelfoto von Martin Ruegner bei Getty-Images. Es stammt aus einer Bilderserie des Fotografen. Da ich auch gerne fotografiere (ein paar Beispiele finden sie hier) nehme ich aus dem Bildband ein paar Inspirationen mit. Wer schon auf der Suche nach einem großartigen Weihnachtsgeschenk ist, wird hier sicherlich fündig.

It will soon be the end of November. The days are getting shorter and shorter, the trees have lost almost all their leaves, it is getting cold and the weather is unpleasant. We light candles at home again and drink a hot tea. It’s also the time to retreat with a book and a warm blanket and shake off the daily grind. I also like to take a look at a picture book and let my soul dangle. In my review, I would like to introduce a picture book that presents the „magic of the mountains“.

The illustrated book in front of me is bound in high-quality half-linen. On the cover of the book is a photo with a view of the Geisler Group in South Tyrol. The title of the book stands out against the sky in white letters. The title is repeated on the back of the book on a dark blue background. Here, next to a small photo, you will find a short information text about the contents of the book. With its dimensions of 23.7 x 30.2 cm it is 2.8 cm thick and contains 360 pages. Unfortunately, there is no book binding to be found.
Already on the first pages I am blown away. The double-page spreads made me realise how small you actually are compared to the majestic peaks and surrounding landscapes. There is a short explanatory text for each of the pictures. In general, the texts are kept short, since we are talking about a good 1000 photographs. Each of these photos speaks for itself and does not need a page-long explanation.
The mountains, mountain groups and the mostly associated national parks are spread over all continents. An overview can be found on two double pages with the corresponding page numbers. Each continent has its own fascination.
The further structure is always the same. Next to the name, you will find information on whether it is a national park, a UNESCO biosphere reserve, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site or a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Compared to the initial „appetisers“ with their short text, there is a somewhat longer text block with the most important information about the locations. Under the heading „At a glance“ there is also information on location, size, altitude, recognition, foundation and often an internet address. The photos mostly show the „magic of the mountains“. But there are also photos of the animal and plant world. In between, the pages can be „folded out“ and one looks at a breathtaking panorama picture. The pictures are taken at different times of the day and year. Again and again I am overcome with a feeling of awe.
During our honeymoon, we were travelling in Canada and drove from Jasper to Banff, among other places. It’s a good 300 kilometres through the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Then when you find the photos in the book, I felt transported back again. I picked out a few old photos. A little tip for visitors to the Columbia Icefield. You don’t necessarily have to go up to the glacier in the big vehicles that you have to pay for. There was a car park below the glacier from which you can easily walk to the glacier and enter it.
I find it a pity that the photographers are not introduced here. The photos come from well-known large image providers: Alamy, Mauritius-Images, Getty-Images and Corbi. The image stock of the latter provider was taken over by Getty. Only the names of the photographers are mentioned in the photo credits. For example, the cover photo of Martin Ruegner can be found at Getty-Images. It comes from a series of pictures by the photographer. Since I also like to take pictures (you can find a few examples here), I will take some inspiration from the book.
