Das Jahr geht langsam zu Ende. Die Tage werden wieder langsam länger, jedoch ist es bei uns der Jahreszeit entsprechend grau, regnerisch und trist. Ich schaue mir dann gerne mal einen Bildband an und schalte ein wenig den Alltag ab und schweife in Gedanken in die Ferne. Der Kunth Verlag hat im November eine neue Auflage eines großartigen Bildbandes auf den Markt gebracht.

Die Erde ist ein unerschöpflicher Schatz an Farbenpracht und Formenvielfalt. Ihre Schönheit und ihr unfassbarer Reichtum an Naturphänomenen und faszinierenden Landschaften könnten ganze Bibliotheken füllen. Dieser Bildband muss sich notgedrungen mit einer Auswahl davon begnügen. Dennoch offenbart gerade diese visuelle Komprimierung das Geheimnis unserer Welt, wie fantastisch und einfallsreich sie ist. Es ist eine Weltreise, die Sehnsüchte weckt und gleichzeitig das Fernweh ein wenig zu stillen versucht.
Auf den ersten Blick fällt das Formt des Bildbandes ins Auge. Es ist 39.1cm breit und 25,1 cm hoch. Mit einer Dicke von 3 cm umfasst es 360 Seiten. Anders als bei anderen Bildbänden hat hier der Verlag ein „Panorama-Format“ gewählt und das nicht ohne Grund. So kommen die im Buch abgebildeten Fotos noch besser zu Geltung. Die Bindung ist aus Halbleinen. Auf dem verstärkten Buchdeckel ist zur Einstimmung schon ein farben- und kontrastreiches Foto abgebildet. Der Buchtitel hebt sich in weißer Schrift davon ab. Auf der orange gehaltenen Rückseite findet sich neben dem Buchtitel ein kurzer Text zum Inhalt des Bandes. Ein Leseband ist leider nicht zu finden. Dafür sind aber als zusätzlicher Schutz noch einmal vorne und hinten zwei herausnehmbare Pappseiten eingelegt.
Vor der auf Seite 17 zu findenden Inhaltsangabe kann man schon ein paar Fotos auf sich wirken lassen. Das Vorwort neben einer doppelseitigen Darstellung des Grand Canyon erklärt dem Betrachter den Aufbau des Buches und die Besonderheit der herausgearbeiteten Farben. Der Inhalt ist nach den einzelnen Kontinenten und deren Länder unterteilt. Am Ende findet sich noch ein Register, der Bildnachweis und das Impressum.
Der Aufbau der Seiten ist so weit immer gleich. Die Fotos sind entweder auf einer oder als Panorama über eine Doppelseite dargestellt. Der Textteil ist immer oberhalb der Fotos zu finden und liefert kurz und knapp einen informativen Hintergrund zum dargestellten Land. Das Land und der Ort der Fotos sind links oder rechts oben zu finden. Eine Besonderheit, auf die auch schon im Vorwort hingewiesen wird, ist die Darstellung der fünf dominantesten Farbwerte.
Die Fotos sind beeindruckend und zeigen Landschaften, Gebirgszüge, Küsten, Wälder, Flüsse, Schneelandschaften, Gletscher, Eisberge aber auch Tiere zu Lande und im Wasser. Der Mensch wird auf den Fotos nicht dargestellt. Ebenso finden sich auch keine Städte oder anderen von Menschen geschaffene Bauwerke. Hier geht es einzig um die Natur und deren Einzigartigkeit und die gewaltige Farbenpracht. Hier braucht es keine Ausleuchtung durch entsprechende Lampen. Die Natur ist da der beste Regisseur und der Fotograf braucht nur ein gutes Auge und den passenden Augenblick, um auf den Auslöser zu drücken. Sicherlich wird hier auch mit dem ein oder anderen Filter und der Belichtung gespielt, aber die Ergebnisse könne sich sehen lassen.
Ich mache selbst gerne Fotos und finde es ein wenig schade, dass die Fotografen nicht vorgestellt werden. Der Kunth-Verlag greift auf Fotos von bekannten großen Image Anbietern: Alamy, Mauritius-Images, Getty-Images und Corbi zurück. Der Bildbestand des letztgenannten Anbieters wurde von Getty übernommen. Im Bildnachweis sind einzig die Namen der Fotografen genannt. Man muss schon ein wenig recherchieren, um auf weitere Fotos der Fotografen zu stoßen. So findet man zum Beispiel auf Seite 4 ein Foto der Sextener Dolomiten in Italien von Lukas Furlan. Das Foto lässt sich auf „lookphotes“ auch käuflich erwerben. Ich nehme aus Bildbänden gerne Inspirationen mit und versuche sie für meine Fotos umzusetzen.
Alles in Allem ist der Bildband ein tolles Geschenk für Naturliebhaber oder (Hobby-) Fotografen. Hier kann der Betrachter mal „die Seele baumeln lassen“ und den Alltag vergessen. Natürlich kann man auch einfach vor die Haustür gehen und die Farben genießen, aber man kommt nicht immer so leicht zu denen im Bildband vorgestellten Kontinente und deren Länder.

The year is slowly coming to an end. The days are slowly getting longer again, but according to the season it is grey, rainy and dreary here. I like to look at a picture book and switch off from everyday life for a while and wander off into the distance. In November, the Kunth publishing house brought out a new edition of a great illustrated book.
Blurb:
The earth is an inexhaustible treasure of colourfulness and diversity of form. Its beauty and its incomprehensible wealth of natural phenomena and fascinating landscapes could fill entire libraries. This illustrated book must of necessity content itself with a selection of them. Nevertheless, it is precisely this visual compression that reveals the secret of our world, how fantastic and imaginative it is. It is a journey around the world that awakens longings and at the same time tries to quench wanderlust a little.
At first glance, the shape of the illustrated book catches the eye. It is 39.1 cm wide and 25.1 cm high. With a thickness of 3 cm, it contains 360 pages. Unlike other illustrated books, the publisher has chosen a „panorama format“ here, and not without reason. This makes the photos in the book stand out even more. The binding is half-linen. To set the mood, a colourful and contrasting photo is already reproduced on the reinforced book cover. The title of the book stands out in white lettering. On the orange back cover, next to the book title, there is a short text on the contents of the volume. Unfortunately, there is no ribbon. However, two removable cardboard pages are inserted at the front and back for additional protection.
Before the table of contents on page 17, you can already see a few photos. The preface next to a double-page illustration of the Grand Canyon explains to the viewer the structure of the book and the special feature of the colours brought out. The contents are divided according to the individual continents and their countries. At the end there is an index, the picture credits and the imprint.
The structure of the pages is always the same. The photos are presented either on one page or as a panorama over a double page. The text section is always above the photos and provides a brief and informative background to the country depicted. The country and location of the photos can be found at the top left or right. A special feature, which is also referred to in the preface, is the presentation of the five most dominant colour values.
The photos are impressive and show landscapes, mountain ranges, coasts, forests, rivers, snowy landscapes, glaciers, icebergs but also animals on land and in the water. Humans are not depicted in the photos. Likewise, there are no cities or other man-made buildings. The only thing that matters here is nature and its uniqueness and the tremendous splendour of colour. Here there is no need for illumination by appropriate lamps. Nature is the best director and the photographer only needs a good eye and the right moment to press the shutter. Of course, one also plays with one or the other filter and the exposure, but the results can be seen.
I like taking photos myself and find it a bit of a pity that the photographers are not introduced. Kunth-Verlag uses photos from well-known large image providers: Alamy, Mauritius-Images, Getty-Images and Corbi. The image stock of the latter provider was taken over by Getty. Only the names of the photographers are mentioned in the image credits. You have to do a little research to find more photos by the photographers. For example, on page 4 you will find a photo of the Sesto Dolomites in Italy by Lukas Furlan. The photo is also available for purchase on „lookphotes“. I like to take inspiration from illustrated books and try to use it in my photos.
All in all, the illustrated book is a great gift for nature lovers or (hobby) photographers. Here the viewer can „let his soul dangle“ and forget everyday life. Of course, you can also just go outside your front door and enjoy the colours, but it is not always so easy to get to the continents and their countries presented in the book.
